On July 23, an expert discussion "Business, Career, and Insurance in Germany" took place at the Ukrainian Consultation Centre in Munich, organized together with DUWEI.

Together with speakers Olga Hatlin, Ihor Kutsii, and Zinoviy Linve, we covered key topics on labor rights, running a business, insurance, and taxes in Germany, and answered guests' personal questions in a Q&A format.

What we discussed:

  • Career and rights protection. Concluding an employment contract (Arbeitsvertrag), termination (Kündigung), severance pay (Abfindung), and employee rights in Germany.
  • Starting your own business. Choosing a business form — GmbH, UG, or Einzelunternehmer, the specifics of non-profit organizations (e.V.), and the step-by-step registration process.
  • Staff and employment. Differences between Mini-job, Midi-job, and Vollzeit, the real cost of an employee for the employer (Lohnnebenkosten), and employee rights.
  • Insurance. Mandatory business protection — Gewerbe- and Berufshaftpflicht insurance, property insurance (Inhaltsversicherung), and directors' and officers' liability insurance (D&O).
  • Taxes and social insurance. Rules for small businesses (Kleinunternehmer), value-added tax (Umsatzsteuer), tax refunds, and an entrepreneur's pension obligations.
  • Contracts and invoices. Invoice formatting rules (Rechnung), Dienst- and Werkvertrag contracts, and the risks related to self-employment (Scheinselbstständigkeit).

We sincerely thank the speakers for their expertise, and the guests for their engagement and great questions!
