On 26 May 2026, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) jointly organised an online seminar, “Engaging the Global Ukrainian Community for Ukraine’s Recovery – Where We Stand and Next Steps”.
The event attracted over 30 participants from the Ukrainian diaspora, civil society, government representatives, international organisations, and academia. The meeting deliberated on the activities of the Global Ukrainian Community (GUC) since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion and had an interactive discussion of ways to maximise the GUC’s contribution to Ukraine’s recovery. A strong focus of the discussion was given to the engagement of foreign partner organisations and their coordination mechanisms, which can play a role in engaging the Global Ukrainian Community.
The Global Ukrainian Community (GUC) – an estimated 20-25 million people across more than 60 countries – has contributed to Ukraine's recovery through large remittance flows, entrepreneurial activity, human capital, and other initiatives. ICMPD EECA Regional office supports the reconstruction of Ukraine through strengthening the positive impact of diaspora’s engagement in the framework of a number of projects: U-SUPPORT, U-CARE, and CORE-UA.
